Cartan McLaughlin

Cartan McLaughlin is the founder and CEO of Nihon Cyber Defence (NCD), a Japan based cyber security company. NCD brings US and UK cyber expertise to the cyber market in Japan.

Cartan has worked for 30 years in Japan in the financial technology and cyber security sectors. Starting as a programmer, he contributed to key projects like the Tokyo/Osaka Stock Exchange’s transition to electronic trading. He later moved into the financial sector, delivering secure banking applications and specializing in SWIFT and international payments systems. He has worked with major Japanese financial groups both in head offices and their international branches, implementing technology solutions across the world.

His expertise lies in integrating technology with industry insights, particularly in financial and government sectors, with deep knowledge of banking technology, cyber security, AML, and KYC. He believes the future of corporate governance lies in uniting financial technology, regulatory technology, and cyber security. He is seen as a thought leader in these areas.

He has an BSc honors degree in Computer Science from Queen’s University Belfast.
