Kyoko is Chair of InfluenceMap, a global think tank leveraging AI to deliver data-driven analysis on the impact business and finance have on climate change. She also serves as an Independent Director at The Mekong Club, a global NGO advising multinational corporations on sustainable practices to combat modern slavery. She is an active member of Women Corporate Directors (Japan Chapter).
Previously, Kyoko was Group Executive Officer and Board Observer at Rakuten, Japan’s largest digital conglomerate, which includes the country’s fastest-growing FinTech ecosystem, spanning banking, securities, insurance, credit cards, and digital payments.
Before Rakuten, she led business development at HSBC Global Markets and Banking, where she built a profitable sustainable investing business from the ground up, becoming Head of Sustainable Investments. She also worked at Goldman Sachs Asset Management as Chief of Staff to the CEO.
Kyoko’s career began in global media, reporting from over 20 countries as a correspondent and anchor for CNN, CNBC, and Japan’s top-rated news program, News Station. She brings a unique cross-cultural perspective, having been equally educated in Japanese and American schools.
Kyoko holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University, specializing in Systems Control Theory, a foundational study for AI. She is also an Associate at Harvard’s U.S.-Japan Program and the Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies.
Kyoko serves as Council Leader of the U.S.-Japan Council and actively supports the Asian University for Women through fundraising initiatives in Japan.
